Vairat Devi Temple Achalpur Maharashtra

There is a natural pool near Vairat Village towards the west which is a very beautiful location featuring an ancient Vairat Devi Temple as well. Vairat Village is in the centre with Chikhaldara to the east and the Satpura range on the western side. However, located on a critical route one has to pass the valley with the help of a rope so as to reach the original Vairat Devi Temple site. Nevertheless, if this is difficult and not possible, people have built a new Devi Temple at this end so as to facilitate darshan for the sake of visitors.

Gawilghur Fort Achalpur Maharashtra

Gawilghur was a well-fortified mountain stronghold of the Maratha Empire north of the Deccan Plateau, in the vicinity of Melghat Tiger Reserve, Amravati District,Maharashtra. It was successfully assaulted by an Anglo-Indian force commanded by Arthur Wellesley on the 15 December 1803 during the Second Anglo-Maratha War. Achalpur Maharashtra Fort

The history of Achalpur, formerly known as Ellichpur, could well be said to be history of Vidarbha (Berar) itself. Nawab Sultan Khan, the first of his dynasty, built the fort at Sultanapura in Achalpur on the south the bank of the Sarpan River in about 1754 AD. Much of the part of the fort is now in completely dilapidated condition. The city was fortified by Sultan Khan’s son Ismail Khan by a huge and solid rampart wall of masonry with four gates. Most of the fortifications and the gates are still intact.
